a wild ass used to the wilderness, in her heat sniffing the wind! Who can restrain her lust? None who seek her need weary themselves; in her month they will find her.


How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep are dismayed.


For this our heart has become sick, for these things our eyes have grown dim,


Our eyes failed, ever watching vainly for help; in our watching we watched for a nation which could not save.


Then Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land; see how my eyes have become bright, because I tasted a little of this honey.


For the palace will be forsaken, the populous city deserted; the hill and the watchtower will become dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;
