“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.


Even in laughter the heart is sad, and the end of joy is grief.


“Woe to you that are full now, for you shall hunger. “Woe to you that laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.

I said of laughter, “It is mad,” and of pleasure, “What use is it?”


It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes.


My eyes shed streams of tears, because men do not keep thy law.


And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law.


They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death, and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”
