They answered him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did,


That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants—not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham, for he is the father of us all,


for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”


You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.


But some one will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.


and likewise the father of the circumcised who are not merely circumcised but also follow the example of the faith which our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.


What then shall we say about Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh?


For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.


And Stephen said: “Brethren and fathers, hear me. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

Then I took your father Abraham from beyond the River and led him through all the land of Canaan, and made his offspring many. I gave him Isaac;


By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was ready to offer up his only son,
