“I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.


The crack of whip, and rumble of wheel, galloping horse and bounding chariot!


As with the rumbling of chariots, they leap on the tops of the mountains, like the crackling of a flame of fire devouring the stubble, like a powerful army drawn up for battle.


For a burning place has long been prepared; yea, for the king it is made ready, its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of brimstone, kindles it.


He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear, he burns the chariots with fire!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”


So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved.”


Give heed to him and hearken to his voice, do not rebel against him, for he will not pardon your transgression; for my name is in him.


And the angel of the Lord said to him, “Why do you ask my name, seeing it is wonderful?”


“Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land.


Now you are walled about with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike upon the cheek the ruler of Israel.


It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord, and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule upon his throne. And there shall be a priest by his throne, and peaceful understanding shall be between them both.” ’
