When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man.


And he touched my mouth, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin forgiven.”


Then the Lord put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and the Lord said to me, “Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.


And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days; then I rose and went about the king's business; but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it.


So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened and fell upon my face. But he said to me, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.”


“Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me, and my color changed; but I kept the matter in my mind.”


“As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious and the visions of my head alarmed me.


and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden girdle round his breast;


Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”


for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.


And immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, blessing God.


I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, “O my lord, what shall be the issue of these things?”


while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.


Now the hand of the Lord had been upon me the evening before the fugitive came; and he had opened my mouth by the time the man came to me in the morning; so my mouth was opened, and I was no longer dumb.


But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God’; he that will hear, let him hear; and he that will refuse to hear, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house.


And above the firmament over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire; and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness as it were of a human form.


For in much wisdom is much vexation, and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow.


Then Manoah entreated the Lord, and said, “O, Lord, I pray thee, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again to us, and teach us what we are to do with the boy that will be born.”


And he said to him, “Pray, Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”


And Gideon said to him, “Pray, sir, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this befallen us? And where are all his wonderful deeds which our fathers recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has cast us off, and given us into the hand of Midian.”


And he said, “No; but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and said to him, “What does my lord bid his servant?”


But he said, “Oh, my Lord, send, I pray, some other person.”


But Moses said to the Lord, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either heretofore or since thou hast spoken to thy servant; but I am slow of speech and of tongue.”


Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was dismayed for a moment, and his thoughts alarmed him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, let not the dream or the interpretation alarm you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, may the dream be for those who hate you and its interpretation for your enemies!


As he was speaking to me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face to the ground; but he touched me and set me on my feet.
