Today in the town of David a Savior has been born for you! He is the Messiah, the Lord.


“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “because this is what the prophet has written:


but he didn’t sleep with her before she’d given birth to a son. And Joseph gave him the name Jesus.


The angels left and went back to heaven. Then the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”


During the time when Herod was king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah. He belonged to the group of priests named after Abijah. His wife was named Elizabeth, and she also came from the line of priests descended from Aaron.


After this Herod died, and Joseph, who was still in Egypt, had a dream. An angel of the Lord appeared to him


When King Herod heard about this, he became very concerned, as did everyone else in Jerusalem.


Then Herod spoke privately with the wise men and found out exactly when the star had appeared.


When Herod realized that the wise men had tricked him, he became very angry. He gave orders to kill all the boys two years old and younger who were living in Bethlehem and the area around it. This was because the wise men had first seen the star two years earlier.
