Jesus said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you. Everything that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must come true.”


There he lived in a town called Nazareth. The prophets had said that Jesus would be called a Nazarene, and in this way their words came true.


But that was how God made the words that he spoke through the prophets come true. The prophets said that God’s Messiah would suffer.


This happened so that the words Jesus had spoken would come true, “I haven’t lost a single one of those you’ve given me.”


So the words spoken by the prophet came true: “I will open my mouth and tell stories. I’ll speak about things that have been hidden since the world was created.”


While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe through the name you gave me. Not one of them has been lost, except the one headed for destruction, so that Scripture would come true.


This has happened to make what’s written in their Law come true. It says, ‘They hated me without any reason.’


We know that Scripture is always true. If God could speak to some people and call them ‘gods,’


But because they have no roots, they last only a short time. When trouble or suffering comes because of the message, they quickly fall away from the faith.


This was to make what the prophet Isaiah had said come true:


They all stayed there until King Herod died. This made the words that the Lord had spoken through the prophet come true: “I called my son out of Egypt.”


This happened to make the words of Isaiah the prophet come true. He had said, “He took away our weakness and carried off our sickness.”


“Don’t think that I’ve come to set aside what’s written in the Law and the Prophets. I haven’t come to do that, but to fulfill what’s written.


This is the time when God will punish Jerusalem. Everything will come true, just as it has been written.


God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their royal authority until God’s words come true.


Long ago God announced the good news about his Son through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures.
