Paul went there as usual, and for three Sabbath days in a row he talked with the Jews about the Scriptures.


There he lived in a town called Nazareth. The prophets had said that Jesus would be called a Nazarene, and in this way their words came true.


Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother kept all these things like a secret treasure in her heart.


When Jesus was 12 years old, they went up to the feast as usual.


“I’ve spoken openly to the world,” Jesus answered. “I’ve always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I haven’t said anything in secret.


He began by telling them, “Today this passage of Scripture has come true as you have listened.”


Joseph and Mary did everything that the Law of the Lord required, and then they returned to their own town of Nazareth in Galilee.


He began to teach in their synagogues, and everyone spoke well of him.


They handed him the scroll of Isaiah the prophet. Jesus unrolled it and found the right place. He read what was written there:


Jesus responded, “You’ll certainly apply this saying to me: ‘Doctor, heal yourself!’ And by that you’ll mean, ‘We want you to do here in your hometown the things we’ve heard you did in Capernaum.’ ”
