When in me was o'erwhelm'd my sp'rit, then well thou knew'st my way; Where I did walk a snare for me they privily did lay.


For without cause have they for me their net hid in a pit, They also have without a cause for my soul digged it.


My soul's bow'd down; for they a net have laid, my steps to snare: Into the pit which they have digg'd for me, they fallen are.


I err'd not from them, though for me the wicked snares did set.


The proud have digged pits for me, which is against thy laws.


The men that are puff 'd up with pride against me forg'd a lie; Yet thy commandements observe with my whole heart will I.


Let not the foot of cruel pride come, and against me stand; And let me not removed be, Lord, by the wicked's hand.


And sith thou art my strength, therefore pull me out of the net, Which they in subtilty for me so privily have set.


Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against th' ungodly nation; From the unjust and crafty man, O be thou my salvation.
