1 Samuel 17:51 - Plain English Version

51 Then he ran up to him and stood on top of him. He took out the long knife from Goliath’s belt and cut off his head. After the Philistia mob saw that their big soldier lay there dead on the ground, they all turned around and ran away.

The old man answered, “Yes, there is that long knife that belonged to Goliath from Philistia. You killed him dead, down in the valley at Elah. That is all I have. If you like, you can take it. There it is, covered with a blanket, near the special ceremony clothes.” David said, “That is a good knife. It is better than anyone else’s knife. Give it to me.” (We have not yet translated 21:10—22:8.)


And that’s how David won. He didn’t use a long knife. No, he killed that Philistia man dead just with a sling and a stone.


They cut off Saul’s head and took off his heavy iron plates. Then they sent messengers to every place in Philistia, to tell the story to the people and in the houses of their gods.
