But to this day the Lord has not given you a mind to understand, or eyes to see, or ears to hear.


For the Lord has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep; he has closed your eyes, you prophets, and covered your heads, you seers.


Mortal, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house, who have eyes to see but do not see, who have ears to hear but do not hear;


He said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but to others I speak in parables, so that ‘looking they may not perceive, and listening they may not understand.’


Hear this, O foolish and senseless people, who have eyes, but do not see, who have ears, but do not hear.


‘Go to this people and say, You will indeed listen, but never understand, and you will indeed look, but never perceive.


And he said, “Go and say to this people: ‘Keep listening, but do not comprehend; keep looking, but do not understand.’


So these nations worshiped the Lord, but also served their carved images; to this day their children and their children's children continue to do as their ancestors did.


To this day they continue to practice their former customs. They do not worship the Lord and they do not follow the statutes or the ordinances or the law or the commandment that the Lord commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel.


I defiled them through their very gifts, in their offering up all their firstborn, in order that I might horrify them, so that they might know that I am the Lord.
