The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net, along the road they have set snares for me. Selah


They think in their heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”


Then he said to me, “Mortal, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of images? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’ ”


and they say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive.”


There they are, bellowing with their mouths, with sharp words on their lips— for “Who,” they think, “will hear us?”


Therefore you say, ‘What does God know? Can he judge through the deep darkness?


Each one helps the other, saying to one another, “Take courage!”


We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.


Come now, curse this people for me, since they are stronger than I; perhaps I shall be able to defeat them and drive them from the land; for I know that whomever you bless is blessed, and whomever you curse is cursed.”


The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’


and the inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to the inhabitants of the earth.


Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cross sea and land to make a single convert, and you make the new convert twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.


And when God caused me to wander from my father's house, I said to her, ‘This is the kindness you must do me: at every place to which we come, say of me, He is my brother.’ ”


(23) The Israelites went up and wept before the Lord until the evening; and they inquired of the Lord, “Shall we again draw near to battle against our kinsfolk the Benjaminites?” And the Lord said, “Go up against them.”
