Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians to trap him in what he said.


and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.


Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said.


So they watched him and sent spies who pretended to be honest, in order to trap him by what he said, so as to hand him over to the jurisdiction and authority of the governor.


They watched him to see whether he would cure him on the sabbath, so that they might accuse him.


But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?


When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, “Am I God, to give death or life, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Just look and see how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me.”


When he went outside, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile toward him and to cross-examine him about many things,


And they were not able in the presence of the people to trap him by what he said; and being amazed by his answer, they became silent.


But do not be persuaded by them, for more than forty of their men are lying in ambush for him. They have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink until they kill him. They are ready now and are waiting for your consent.”
