He has walled up my way so that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness upon my paths.


Why is light given to one who cannot see the way, whom God has fenced in?


Therefore I will hedge up her way with thorns; and I will build a wall against her, so that she cannot find her paths.


My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they weigh on my neck, sapping my strength; the Lord handed me over to those whom I cannot withstand.


Now look, I have just released you today from the fetters on your hands. If you wish to come with me to Babylon, come, and I will take good care of you; but if you do not wish to come with me to Babylon, you need not come. So they took Jeremiah and threw him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down by ropes. Now there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and Jeremiah sank in the mud.


You have caused my companions to shun me; you have made me a thing of horror to them. I am shut in so that I cannot escape;


He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against our rulers, by bringing upon us a calamity so great that what has been done against Jerusalem has never before been done under the whole heaven.


With a yoke on our necks we are hard driven; we are weary, we are given no rest.


he has blocked my ways with hewn stones, he has made my paths crooked.


my eye grows dim through sorrow. Every day I call on you, O Lord; I spread out my hands to you.
