James 5:11 - New Revised Standard Version

11 Indeed we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.

Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.


The Lord passed before him, and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,


and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.


then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trial, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment


But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.


But he said to her, “You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Shall we receive the good at the hand of God, and not receive the bad?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.


Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.


Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.


The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;


The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.


‘The Lord is slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the parents upon the children to the third and the fourth generation.’


But we are not among those who shrink back and so are lost, but among those who have faith and so are saved.

Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of your possession? He does not retain his anger forever, because he delights in showing clemency.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.


Nevertheless, in your great mercies you did not make an end of them or forsake them, for you are a gracious and merciful God.


There was once a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and turned away from evil.


My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy,


But even if you do suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be intimidated,


For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
