24 About three months later Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar has played the whore; moreover she is pregnant as a result of whoredom.” And Judah said, “Bring her out, and let her be burned.”

When the daughter of a priest profanes herself through prostitution, she profanes her father; she shall be burned to death.


For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said, “I will go after my lovers; they give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.”


For they have gone in to her, as one goes in to a whore. Thus they went in to Oholah and to Oholibah, wanton women.


Yet she increased her whorings, remembering the days of her youth, when she played the whore in the land of Egypt


Oholah played the whore while she was mine; she lusted after her lovers the Assyrians, warriors


But his concubine became angry with him, and she went away from him to her father's house at Bethlehem in Judah, and was there some four months.


The faith that you have, have as your own conviction before God. Blessed are those who have no reason to condemn themselves because of what they approve.


Though you play the whore, O Israel, do not let Judah become guilty. Do not enter into Gilgal, or go up to Beth-aven, and do not swear, “As the Lord lives.”


And I said to her, “You must remain as mine for many days; you shall not play the whore, you shall not have intercourse with a man, nor I with you.”


They shall burn your houses and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women; I will stop you from playing the whore, and you shall also make no more payments.


You played the whore with the Assyrians, because you were insatiable; you played the whore with them, and still you were not satisfied.


But you trusted in your beauty, and played the whore because of your fame, and lavished your whorings on any passer-by.


She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce; yet her false sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.


The Lord said to me in the days of King Josiah: Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and played the whore there?


If a man divorces his wife and she goes from him and becomes another man's wife, will he return to her? Would not such a land be greatly polluted? You have played the whore with many lovers; and would you return to me? says the Lord.


For long ago you broke your yoke and burst your bonds, and you said, “I will not serve!” On every high hill and under every green tree you sprawled and played the whore.


I found more bitter than death the woman who is a trap, whose heart is snares and nets, whose hands are fetters; one who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is taken by her.


Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel, and I rescued you from the hand of Saul;


Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man. He said to Nathan, “As the Lord lives, the man who has done this deserves to die;


Parents shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their parents; only for their own crimes may persons be put to death.


If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall be put to death.


But they said, “Should our sister be treated like a whore?”


Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought such great guilt on me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that ought not to be done.”


Now then, return the man's wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all that are yours.”


But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “You are about to die because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a married woman.”


Judah replied, “Let her keep the things as her own, otherwise we will be laughed at; you see, I sent this kid, and you could not find her.”


at the head of every street you built your lofty place and prostituted your beauty, offering yourself to every passer-by, and multiplying your whoring.


You played the whore with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, multiplying your whoring, to provoke me to anger.
