Circumcise, then, the foreskin of your heart, and do not be stubborn any longer.


Know, then, that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to occupy because of your righteousness; for you are a stubborn people.


They would not listen but were stubborn, as their ancestors had been, who did not believe in the Lord their God.


For I know well how rebellious and stubborn you are. If you already have been so rebellious toward the Lord while I am still alive among you, how much more after my death!


Then I will draw near to you for judgment; I will be swift to bear witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against those who swear falsely, against those who oppress the hired workers in their wages, the widow and the orphan, against those who thrust aside the alien, and do not fear me, says the Lord of hosts.


In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; Ephraim's whoredom is there, Israel is defiled.


I have seen your abominations, your adulteries and neighings, your shameless prostitutions on the hills of the countryside. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will it be before you are made clean?


Has this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your sight? You know, I too am watching, says the Lord.


“Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.


I must go down and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me; and if not, I will know.”


The Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which mortals had built.
