When David saw the angel who was destroying the people, he said to the Lord, “I alone have sinned, and I, the shepherd, have done evil, but these sheep, what have they done? Let your hand, I pray, be against me and against my father’s house.”


These ten times you have cast reproach upon me; are you not ashamed to wrong me?


If indeed you magnify yourselves against me and make my humiliation an argument against me,


If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.


Know that all lives are mine; the life of the parent as well as the life of the child is mine: it is only the person who sins who shall die.


For all of us must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each may receive due recompense for actions done in the body, whether good or evil.


For all must carry their own loads.
