They have gaped at me with their mouths; they have struck me insolently on the cheek; they mass themselves together against me.


Then Pashhur struck the prophet Jeremiah and put him in the stocks that were in the upper Benjamin Gate of the house of the Lord.


Now you are walled around with a wall; siege is laid against us; with a rod they strike the ruler of Israel upon the cheek.


Then they spat in his face and struck him, and some slapped him,


When he had said this, one of the police standing nearby struck Jesus on the face, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?”


Jesus answered, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify to the wrong. But if I have spoken rightly, why do you strike me?”


Five days later the high priest Ananias came down with some elders and an attorney, a certain Tertullus, and they reported their case against Paul to the governor.
