gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.


The end of all things is near; therefore be serious and discipline yourselves for the sake of your prayers.


Women likewise must be serious, not slanderers, but temperate, faithful in all things.


Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour.


That testimony is true. For this reason rebuke them sharply, so that they may become sound in the faith,


Now a bishop must be above reproach, married only once, temperate, sensible, respectable, hospitable, an apt teacher,


Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.


But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, and put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.


For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.


Is wisdom with the aged, and understanding in length of days?


You shall rise before the aged, and defer to the old; and you shall fear your God: I am the Lord.


Therefore prepare your minds for action; discipline yourselves; set all your hope on the grace that Jesus Christ will bring you when he is revealed.


Come to a sober and right mind, and sin no more; for some people have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.


In old age they still produce fruit; they are always green and full of sap,


and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness,


Show yourself in all respects a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, gravity,


but he must be hospitable, a lover of goodness, prudent, upright, devout, and self-controlled.


He must manage his own household well, keeping his children submissive and respectful in every way—


But the aim of such instruction is love that comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith.


So then let us not fall asleep as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober;


Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.


For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.


Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one.


And as he discussed justice, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “Go away for the present; when I have an opportunity, I will send for you.”

Deacons likewise must be serious, not double-tongued, not indulging in much wine, not greedy for money;


To Timothy, my loyal child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.


fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching


and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.


Do not speak harshly to an older man, but speak to him as to a father, to younger men as brothers,


yet I would rather appeal to you on the basis of love—and I, Paul, do this as an old man, and now also as a prisoner of Christ Jesus.
