They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.


And I will say to my soul, “‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.” ’


‘Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel!


Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law struggle against them.


those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?


They open wide their mouths against me; they say, “Aha, Aha, our eyes have seen it.”


You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful.


“If I have made gold my trust, or called fine gold my confidence;


All who hear the words of this oath and bless themselves, thinking in their hearts, “We are safe even though we go our own stubborn ways” (thus bringing disaster on moist and dry alike) —


The enemy said, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.’


Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world;


Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a town and spend a year there, doing business and making money.”


Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry).


Be sure of this, that no fornicator or impure person, or one who is greedy (that is, an idolater), has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.


thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.


They know God's decree, that those who practice such things deserve to die—yet they not only do them but even applaud others who practice them.


They were filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips,


And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”


“Alas for you who get evil gain for your houses, setting your nest on high to be safe from the reach of harm!”


But your eyes and heart are only on your dishonest gain, for shedding innocent blood, and for practicing oppression and violence.


Because of their wicked covetousness I was angry; I struck them, I hid and was angry; but they kept turning back to their own ways.


Why do you boast, O mighty one, of mischief done against the godly? All day long


Though in their lifetime they count themselves happy —for you are praised when you do well for yourself—


Saul said, “May you be blessed by the Lord for showing me compassion!


The Lord saw it, and was jealous he spurned his sons and daughters.


I will destroy your high places and cut down your incense altars; I will heap your carcasses on the carcasses of your idols. I will abhor you.


As it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.


He said to his mother, “The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and even spoke it in my hearing,—that silver is in my possession; I took it; but now I will return it to you.” And his mother said, “May my son be blessed by the Lord!”


and muster an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot; then we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.” He heeded their voice, and did so.


In my vain life I have seen everything; there are righteous people who perish in their righteousness, and there are wicked people who prolong their life in their evildoing.
