For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips, let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,


Do not let the foot of the arrogant tread on me, or the hand of the wicked drive me away.


Their mischief returns upon their own heads, and on their own heads their violence descends.


The iniquities of the wicked ensnare them, and they are caught in the toils of their sin.


Guarantee your servant's well-being; do not let the godless oppress me.


Let the lying lips be stilled that speak insolently against the righteous with pride and contempt.


The arrogant have hidden a trap for me, and with cords they have spread a net, along the road they have set snares for me. Selah


The arrogant have dug pitfalls for me; they flout your law.


The arrogant smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts.


Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other insolent men said to Jeremiah, “You are telling a lie. The Lord our God did not send you to say, ‘Do not go to Egypt to settle there’;


Those who see you will stare at you, and ponder over you: “Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms,


You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon;


O that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!


Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods, because he delivered the people from the Egyptians, when they dealt arrogantly with them.”


You are still exalting yourself against my people, and will not let them go.


For he did not remember to show kindness, but pursued the poor and needy and the brokenhearted to their death.
