Joseph said to them, “What deed is this that you have done? Do you not know that one such as I can practice divination?”


Is it not from this that my lord drinks? Does he not indeed use it for divination? You have done wrong in doing this.’ ”


Ah, you that turn justice to wormwood, and bring righteousness to the ground!


They utter mere words; with empty oaths they make covenants; so litigation springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.


All Israel heard of the judgment that the king had rendered; and they stood in awe of the king, because they perceived that the wisdom of God was in him, to execute justice.


Do horses run on rocks? Does one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood—


Mighty King, lover of justice, you have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.


But when he had become strong he grew proud, to his destruction. For he was false to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to make offering on the altar of incense.


For the king will hear, and deliver his servant from the hand of the man who would cut both me and my son off from the heritage of God.’


By justice a king gives stability to the land, but one who makes heavy exactions ruins it.
