For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?


Then Satan answered the Lord, “Skin for skin! All that people have they will give to save their lives.


For I will leave in the midst of you a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord—


But there were ten men among them who said to Ishmael, “Do not kill us, for we have stores of wheat, barley, oil, and honey hidden in the fields.” So he refrained, and did not kill them along with their companions.


Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.


He will accept no compensation, and refuses a bribe no matter how great.


But the captain of the guard left some of the poorest people of the land to be vinedressers and tillers of the soil.


He carried away all Jerusalem, all the officials, all the warriors, ten thousand captives, all the artisans and the smiths; no one remained, except the poorest people of the land.


If a ransom is imposed on the owner, then the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim's life.


Some pretend to be rich, yet have nothing; others pretend to be poor, yet have great wealth.


The light of the righteous rejoices, but the lamp of the wicked goes out.


The crown of the wise is their wisdom, but folly is the garland of fools.


For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
