You have renounced the covenant with your servant; you have defiled his crown in the dust.


Say to the king and the queen mother; “Take a lowly seat, for your beautiful crown has come down from your head.”


He has stripped my glory from me, and taken the crown from my head.


How lonely sits the city that once was full of people! How like a widow she has become, she that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the provinces has become a vassal.


I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.


thus says the Lord God: Remove the turban, take off the crown; things shall not remain as they are. Exalt that which is low, abase that which is high.


It was for the sins of her prophets and the iniquities of her priests, who shed the blood of the righteous in the midst of her.


How the Lord in his anger has humiliated daughter Zion! He has thrown down from heaven to earth the splendor of Israel; he has not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger.


The Lord is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word; but hear, all you peoples, and behold my suffering; my young women and young men have gone into captivity.


Jerusalem sinned grievously, so she has become a mockery; all who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans, and turns her face away.


Your ways and your doings have brought this upon you. This is your doom; how bitter it is! It has reached your very heart.”


Your wickedness will punish you, and your apostasies will convict you. Know and see that it is evil and bitter for you to forsake the Lord your God; the fear of me is not in you, says the Lord God of hosts.


Have you not brought this upon yourself by forsaking the Lord your God, while he led you in the way?


Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.


Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Beware, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison so that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have affliction. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.


for riches do not last forever, nor a crown for all generations.


So they gathered at Mizpah, and drew water and poured it out before the Lord. They fasted that day, and said, “We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.


For Jerusalem has stumbled and Judah has fallen, because their speech and their deeds are against the Lord, defying his glorious presence.


and they entered and took possession of it. But they did not obey your voice or follow your law; of all you commanded them to do, they did nothing. Therefore you have made all these disasters come upon them.


See, O Lord, how distressed I am; my stomach churns, my heart is wrung within me, because I have been very rebellious. In the street the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death.


Therefore I have begun to strike you down, making you desolate because of your sins.
