Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what kind of woman this is who is touching him—that she is a sinner.”


All those who are arrogant are an abomination to the Lord; be assured, they will not go unpunished.


The Pharisees and their scribes were complaining to his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”


the Lord will be unwilling to pardon them, for the Lord's anger and passion will smoke against them. All the curses written in this book will descend on them, and the Lord will blot out their names from under heaven.


It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions.


In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


But he gives all the more grace; therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”


When the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”


Like vinegar to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so are the lazy to their employers.


And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, “This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.”


There are those who are pure in their own eyes yet are not cleansed of their filthiness.
