Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”—


He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.


We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree;


Then he said, ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will, to see the Righteous One and to hear his own voice;


he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son; today I have begotten you.’


When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you, to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”


This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses.


Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors, and has remembered his holy covenant,


according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”


Blessed be the Lord, the God of our ancestors, who put such a thing as this into the heart of the king to glorify the house of the Lord in Jerusalem,


O Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep forever such purposes and thoughts in the hearts of your people, and direct their hearts toward you.


David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in friendship, to help me, then my heart will be knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my adversaries, though my hands have done no wrong, then may the God of our ancestors see and give judgment.”
