If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked.


But I have this against you: you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet and is teaching and beguiling my servants to practice fornication and to eat food sacrificed to idols.


Anyone, then, who knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, commits sin.


If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.


Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!


Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, because he was determined to go after vanity.


We have not listened to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, our princes, and our ancestors, and to all the people of the land.


“Nevertheless they were disobedient and rebelled against you and cast your law behind their backs and killed your prophets, who had warned them in order to turn them back to you, and they committed great blasphemies.


but they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words, and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord against his people became so great that there was no remedy.


Manasseh misled Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the people of Israel.


He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he sinned and which he caused Israel to commit.”


You not only followed their ways, and acted according to their abominations; within a very little time you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.


I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it.


On every side the wicked prowl, as vileness is exalted among humankind.


The Lord said by his servants the prophets,


Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you are more turbulent than the nations that are all around you, and have not followed my statutes or kept my ordinances, but have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are all around you;


But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; they said, “No! but we are determined to have a king over us,


but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even made his son pass through fire, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel.


But she has rebelled against my ordinances and my statutes, becoming more wicked than the nations and the countries all around her, rejecting my ordinances and not following my statutes.


Then you shall know that I am the Lord, whose statutes you have not followed, and whose ordinances you have not kept, but you have acted according to the ordinances of the nations that are around you.”


You shall say, Thus says the Lord God: A city! Shedding blood within itself; its time has come; making its idols, defiling itself.
