Are you not like the Ethiopians to me, O people of Israel? says the Lord. Did I not bring Israel up from the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor and the Arameans from Kir?


Elam bore the quiver with chariots and cavalry, and Kir uncovered the shield.


So the Lord raised adversaries against them, and stirred up their enemies,


For before the child knows how to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land before whose two kings you are in dread will be deserted.


For Ahaz plundered the house of the Lord and the houses of the king and of the officials, and gave tribute to the king of Assyria; but it did not help him.


Therefore the Lord his God gave him into the hand of the king of Aram, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who defeated him with great slaughter.


Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?


An oracle concerning Damascus. See, Damascus will cease to be a city, and will become a heap of ruins.


Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands,


Ben-hadad listened to King Asa, and sent the commanders of his armies against the cities of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali.
