It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.


But now we are discharged from the law, dead to that which held us captive, so that we are slaves not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.


The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.


For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.


and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.


accordingly Jesus has also become the guarantee of a better covenant.


But their minds were hardened. Indeed, to this very day, when they hear the reading of the old covenant, that same veil is still there, since only in Christ is it set aside.


Thus it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.


For “no human being will be justified in his sight” by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.


Now may the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant,


And he did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.


In the same way he took the cup also, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”


And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”


For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit,


“Cursed be anyone who does not uphold the words of this law by observing them.” All the people shall say, “Amen!”


If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching that you have followed.


Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power.


Is the law then opposed to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could make alive, then righteousness would indeed come through the law.


Now if the ministry of death, chiseled in letters on stone tablets, came in glory so that the people of Israel could not gaze at Moses' face because of the glory of his face, a glory now set aside,


And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers; then deeds of power, then gifts of healing, forms of assistance, forms of leadership, various kinds of tongues.


What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you came to believe, as the Lord assigned to each.


For the law brings wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there violation.


Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes.


He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.


for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.


For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, much more does the ministry of justification abound in glory!


as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”)—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.


through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of his name,


We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—


For this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher,


even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ —by grace you have been saved—


According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building on it. Each builder must choose with care how to build on it.


You were dead through the trespasses and sins


and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.


Are they ministers of Christ? I am talking like a madman—I am a better one: with far greater labors, far more imprisonments, with countless floggings, and often near death.


In speaking of “a new covenant,” he has made the first one obsolete. And what is obsolete and growing old will soon disappear.
