Such is the end of all who are greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its possessors.


But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.


Many are the torments of the wicked, but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.


they must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for sordid gain what it is not right to teach.


therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way and be sated with their own devices.


Woe to them! For they go the way of Cain, and abandon themselves to Balaam's error for the sake of gain, and perish in Korah's rebellion.

by professing it some have missed the mark as regards the faith. Grace be with you.


In you, they take bribes to shed blood; you take both advance interest and accrued interest, and make gain of your neighbors by extortion; and you have forgotten me, says the Lord God.


Gifts are given to all whores; but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from all around for your whorings.


You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, putting to death persons who should not die and keeping alive persons who should not live, by your lies to my people, who listen to lies.


Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the orphan, and the widow's cause does not come before them.


You shall not bring the fee of a prostitute or the wages of a male prostitute into the house of the Lord your God in payment for any vow, for both of these are abhorrent to the Lord your God.

As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.
