and said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:


Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;


O Lord, to us belongeth confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against thee.


and I prayed unto the Lord my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;


neither have we hearkened unto thy servants the prophets, which spake in thy name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and to all the people of the land.


Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.


Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! Through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.


For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.


And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;


And they slew the sons of Zedeki´ah before his eyes, and put out the eyes of Zedeki´ah, and bound him with fetters of brass, and carried him to Babylon.


In his days Pha´raoh–ne´choh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphra´tes: and king Josi´ah went against him; and he slew him at Megid´do, when he had seen him.


Against him came up Shalmane´ser king of Assyria; and Hoshe´a became his servant, and gave him presents.


In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tig´lath–pile´ser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and A´bel–beth–ma´achah, and Jano´ah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gil´e-ad, and Galilee, all the land of Naph´tali, and carried them captive to Assyria.


And Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Men´ahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand.


and he said, Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:


Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the Lord thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.


then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.


then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.


And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.


And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.


And Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the Lord delivered them.


then they came to Zerub´babel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar–had´don king of Assyria, which brought us up hither.


and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnap´per brought over, and set in the cities of Samaria, and the rest that are on this side the river, and at such a time.


For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.


Wherefore it shall come to pass, if ye hearken to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware unto thy fathers:


and he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.


In the ninth year of Hoshe´a the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away into Assyria, and placed them in Halah and in Habor by the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.


until the Lord removed Israel out of his sight, as he had said by all his servants the prophets. So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
