Is there no balm in Gil´e-ad? is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?


For her wound is incurable; for it is come unto Judah; he is come unto the gate of my people, even to Jerusalem.


Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chalde´ans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.


There is no healing of thy bruise; thy wound is grievous: all that hear the bruit of thee shall clap the hands over thee: for upon whom hath not thy wickedness passed continually?


Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.


Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.


Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.


Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.


And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds:


And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ish´maelites came from Gil´e-ad, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.


Again I will build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: thou shalt again be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.


Set thee up waymarks, make thee high heaps: set thine heart toward the highway, even the way which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.
