And Zedeki´ah the king sent Jehu´cal the son of Shelemi´ah and Zephani´ah the son of Ma-asei´ah the priest to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto the Lord our God for us.


Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me; Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.


And Samuel said to Saul, Why hast thou disquieted me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am sore distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God is departed from me, and answereth me no more, neither by prophets, nor by dreams: therefore I have called thee, that thou mayest make known unto me what I shall do.


And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.


Behold the mounts, they are come unto the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chalde´ans that fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence: and what thou hast spoken is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest it.


Ah Lord God! behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee:


And the Lord sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.


But the angel of the Lord said to Eli´jah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to inquire of Ba-al´–zebub the god of Ekron?


Therefore they inquired of the Lord further, if the man should yet come thither. And the Lord answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.


And the children of Israel inquired of the Lord, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,


And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.


Entreat the Lord (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer.


And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and from Sepharva´im, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel: and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof.


For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel: The Lord of hosts is his name.


The Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.


Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedeki´ah:


then Zedeki´ah the king sent, and took him out; and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the Lord? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.


Mischief shall come upon mischief, and rumor shall be upon rumor; then shall they seek a vision of the prophet; but the law shall perish from the priest, and counsel from the ancients.


The word which came unto Jeremiah from the Lord, when Nebuchadnez´zar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth of his dominion, and all the people, fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities thereof, saying,
