he is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Me´deba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off.


Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the Lord, him that offereth in the high places, and him that burneth incense to his gods.


And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.


And Balak brought Ba´laam unto the top of Pe´or, that looketh toward Jeshi´mon.


And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.


And Ba´laam went with Balak, and they came unto Kir´jath–hu´zoth.


Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh perisheth: for thy sons are taken captives, and thy daughters captives.


And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Beth–el their confidence.


For because thou hast trusted in thy works and in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken: and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.


They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.


Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.


And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adram´melech and Share´zer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esar–had´don his son reigned in his stead.


Lord, in trouble have they visited thee; they poured out a prayer when thy chastening was upon them.


Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Then did Solomon build a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.


I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.


And it came to pass on the morrow, that Balak took Ba´laam, and brought him up into the high places of Ba´al, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.


for there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.


This is the word that the Lord hath spoken concerning Moab since that time.
