But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David's wife, to Phalti the son of La´ish, which was of Gallim.


The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilki´ah, of the priests that were in An´athoth in the land of Benjamin:


An´athoth with her suburbs, and Almon with her suburbs; four cities.


So Han´ameel mine uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the word of the Lord, and said unto me, Buy my field, I pray thee, that is in An´athoth, which is in the country of Benjamin: for the right of inheritance is thine, and the redemption is thine; buy it for thyself. Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord.


And unto Abi´athar the priest said the king, Get thee to An´athoth, unto thine own fields; for thou art worthy of death: but I will not at this time put thee to death, because thou barest the ark of the Lord God before David my father, and because thou hast been afflicted in all wherein my father was afflicted.


And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was La´ish at the first.


Then the five men departed, and came to La´ish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt careless, after the manner of the Zido´ni-ans, quiet and secure; and there was no magistrate in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zido´ni-ans, and had no business with any man.


Madme´nah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
