Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.


For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle: both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.


And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.


standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.


In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.


Therefore I will wail and howl, I will go stripped and naked: I will make a wailing like the dragons, and mourning as the owls.


and I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.


Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts.


Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God, the God of hosts,


Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord.


Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.


For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.


And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:


For the cry is gone round about the borders of Moab; the howling thereof unto Eg´la-im, and the howling thereof unto Beer–e´lim.


And Jeremiah lamented for Josi´ah: and all the singing men and the singing women spake of Josi´ah in their lamentations to this day, and made them an ordinance in Israel: and, behold, they are written in the lamentations.


For thus saith the Lord; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.


Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.


Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.


And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.


I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
