I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

So these young men of the princes of the provinces came out of the city, and the army which followed them.


And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and chariots, and slew the Syrians with a great slaughter.


But Ish´ma-el the son of Nethani´ah escaped from Jo´hanan with eight men, and went to the Ammonites.


And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naph´tali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manas´seh, and pursued after the Mid´i-anites.
