Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! They are saying of me, ‘Is he not a maker of parables?’”


In that day they shall take up a taunt song against you and moan bitterly, and say, “We are utterly ruined; he changes the portion of my people; how he removes it from me! To an apostate he allots our fields.”


Shall not all these take up their taunt against him, with scoffing and riddles for him, and say, “Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own— for how long?— and loads himself with pledges!”


‘Behold, a people has come out of Egypt, and it covers the face of the earth. Now come, curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and drive them out.’”


for I will surely do you great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Come, curse this people for me.’”


And Balaam took up his discourse and said, “Rise, Balak, and hear; give ear to me, O son of Zippor:


And he returned to him, and behold, he and all the princes of Moab were standing beside his burnt offering.

He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”


This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”


And they were seeking to arrest him but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they left him and went away.


because they did not meet you with bread and with water on the way, when you came out of Egypt, and because they hired against you Balaam the son of Beor from Pethor of Mesopotamia, to curse you.


And the Philistine said, “I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.”


Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.”


Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
