24 Now when they heard these words, both the high priest and the captain of the temple, and the chief priests, they were greatly perplexed about them, as to what this might come to be.

And he went off and spoke with the chief priests and captains about how he might betray Him to them.


Then Jesus said to the chief priests, captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to Him, "Have you come out, as against a bandit, with swords and clubs?


The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "You see that you are not doing any good. Look, the world has gone after Him!"


So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What might this mean?"


Now while they were speaking to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,


So having threatened them further, they released them, finding no way of punishing them, on account of the people, because they all were glorifying God over that which had occurred.


saying, "Indeed we found the prison shut in all security, and the guards standing before the doors; but when we opened them, we found no one inside!"


So one came and reported to them, saying, "Behold, the men whom you put in jail are standing in the temple and teaching the people!"


Then the captain went with the officers and brought them without violence, for they were afraid of the people, lest they be stoned.
