12 For we dare not to class ourselves or to compare ourselves with those who commend themselves, but they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, do not understand.

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.


For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ did not work out through me, in word and deed, for the obedience of the Gentiles--


Let such a person consider this, that of what sort we are in word by letters when we are absent, of such a kind we will also be in deed when we are present.


For not he who commends himself is approved, but he whom the Lord commends.


Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or letters of recommendation from you?


For we do not commend ourselves again to you, but give to you an opportunity of boasting on our behalf, so that you may have an answer for those who boast in appearance and not in heart.
