2 The man’s wife was named Naomi and his two sons were named Mahlon and Kilion. These people were from the Ephrathah family of Bethlehem, Judah. The family traveled to the hill country of Moab and stayed there.

Rachel was buried on the road to Ephrath. (Ephrath is Bethlehem.)


But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,\par are the smallest town in Judah.\par Your family is almost too small to count.\par But the “Ruler of Israel”\par will come from you for me.\par His beginnings {\cf2\super [60]} are from ancient times,\par from long, long ago.\par


The Israelites and Philistines were lined up and ready for battle.


There was a man named Elkanah from Ramah in the hill country of Ephraim. Elkanah was from the Zuph [1] family. Elkanah was the son of Jeroham. [2] Jeroham was Elihu’s son. Elihu [3] was Tohu’s son. Tohu [4] was the son of Zuph, from the family group of Ephraim.


So on that day the people of Israel began to rule over the people of Moab. And there was peace in the land for 80 years.


There was a young man that was a Levite. [129] He was from the city of Bethlehem, Judah. He had been living among the family group of Judah.


Later, Naomi’s husband, Elimelech, died. So only Naomi and her two sons were left.


and Mahlon and Kilion also died. So Naomi was left alone without her husband or her two sons.


There was a rich man living in Bethlehem. His name was Boaz. Boaz was one of Naomi’s close relatives [7] from Elimelech’s family.


Then Boaz said to the elders [31] and all the people, “You are witnesses today that I am buying from Naomi everything that belonged to Elimelech, Kilion, and Mahlon.


David was the son of Jesse. Jesse was from the Ephrathah family in Bethlehem, Judah. Jesse had eight sons. In Saul’s time Jesse was an old man.
