You were born non-Jews. You are the people the Jews call “uncircumcised. {\cf2\super [8]} ” Those Jews who call you “uncircumcised” call themselves “circumcised. {\cf2\super [9]} ” (Their circumcision {\cf2\super [10]} is only something they themselves do on their bodies.)

We Jews were not born as non-Jews and sinners. We were born as Jews.

Are those people Hebrews {\cf2\super [38]} ? I am too. Are they Israelites {\cf2\super [39]} ? I am too. Are they from Abraham’s {\cf2\super [40]} family? I am too.

So you are doing the things your own father did.”

The Jews answered, “We are Abraham’s {\cf2\super [136]} people. And we have never been slaves. So why do you say that we will be free?”

Moses gave you the law. {\cf2\super [104]} Right? But none of you obey that law. Why are you trying to kill me?”

“Then, Jerusalem, you will no longer be ashamed of the bad things your people do against me. Why? Because I will remove all of those bad people from Jerusalem. I will take away all of those proud people. There won’t be any of those proud people on my holy mountain. {\cf2\super [21]}

So do we have a reason to boast about ourselves? No! And why not? It is the way of faith that stops all boasting, not the way of following the law.
