In those times people will love only themselves and money. They will be boastful and proud. They will say bad things against other people. They will not obey their parents. They will not be thankful. They will not be the kind of people God wants.


Those false teachers boast with words that mean nothing. They lead people into the trap \{of sin\}. They lead away people who are just beginning to come away from other people who live wrong. Those false teachers do this by using the evil things people want to do in their sinful selves.


But now you are proud and you boast. All of this boasting is wrong.


It is the same with our tongue. It is a small part of the body, but it boasts about doing great things.


Grace (kindness) and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.


That Man of Evil is against anything called God or anything that people worship. And that Man of Evil puts himself above anything called God or anything that people worship. And that Man of Evil even goes into God’s temple {\cf2\super [5]} and sits there. Then he says that he is God.


We limit our boasting to the work that is ours. We don’t boast in the work other people have done. We hope that your faith will continue to grow. We hope that you will help our work to grow much larger.


So do we have a reason to boast about ourselves? No! And why not? It is the way of faith that stops all boasting, not the way of following the law.


You boast about God’s law. But you bring shame to God by breaking his law.


What about you? You say you are a Jew. You trust in the law and boast that you are close to God.


Remember when Theudas appeared? He said that he was an important man. About 400 men joined him. But he was killed. And all who followed him were scattered and ran away. They were able to do nothing.


Even your parents, brothers, relatives, and friends will turn against you. They will kill some of you.


From that time Jesus began telling his followers that he must go to Jerusalem. Jesus explained that the older Jewish leaders, the leading priests, and the teachers of the law would make him suffer many things. And Jesus told his followers that he must be killed. Then, on the third day, he would be raised from death.


God said, ‘You must honor (respect) your father and mother.’ {\cf2\super [203]} And God also said, ‘Any person that says bad things to his father or mother must be killed.’ {\cf2\super [204]}


People in Jerusalem don’t respect their parents. They hurt foreigners in that city. They cheat orphans and widows {\cf2\super [170]} in that place.


“There is one other thing I have learned: God made people good. But people found many ways to be bad.”


Any person who makes fun of his father or refuses to obey his mother will be punished. It will be as bad for him as if his eyes were eaten by vultures and wild birds.


The wind that blows from the north brings rain. And in the same way, gossip brings anger.


But the person who sins against me\par hurts himself.\par All people who hate me love death!”\par


So God’s people became dirty with the sins of those other people.\par God’s people were unfaithful to their God\par and did the things those other people did.\par


Lord our God, you answered their prayers.\par You showed them\par that you are a forgiving God and\par that you punish people\par for the bad things they do.\par


People worship their idols.\par They brag about their “gods.”\par But those people will be embarrassed.\par Their “gods” will bow down\par and worship the Lord.\par


How much longer will those criminals\par brag about the bad things they did?\par


The Lord’s enemies would shake with fear.\par They would be punished forever.\par


Big man, why do you brag about\par the bad things you do?\par You are a continual disgrace to God.\par


Some people think their strength and wealth will protect them.\par But those people are fools.\par


You say to yourself, ‘I have defeated Edom!’ You are proud and you brag. But you should stay at home. There is no need for you to get into trouble. If you fight me, you and Judah will be destroyed.”


Jehu the seer {\cf2\super [217]} went out to meet Jehoshaphat. Jehu’s father’s name was Hanani. Jehu said to King Jehoshaphat, “Why did you help evil people? Why do you love those people that hate the Lord? That is the reason the Lord is angry with you.


King Ahab answered, “Tell Ben Hadad that the man who puts on his armor should not boast as much as the man who {lives long enough to} take it off.”


“{The Levites will say,} ‘Cursed is the person that does things that show he does not respect his father or his mother!’


But the Lord punishes people who hate him. He will destroy them. He will not be slow to punish people who hate him.


When the people lifted the Holy Box to move the camp, Moses always said,


The world cannot hate you. But the world hates me. Why? Because I tell the people in the world that they do evil things.


Evil people brag about the things they want.\par And those greedy people curse God.\par In this way, the evil people show that\par they hate the Lord.\par


Fools {\cf2\super [24]} can’t come near you.\par You hate {\cf2\super [25]} people who do evil.\par


If you are always planning trouble, then people will know that you are a person who makes trouble. \{And they will not listen to you.\}


I do this because I am afraid that when I come you will not be what I want you to be. And I am afraid that I will not be what you want me to be. I am afraid that \{in your group\} there may be arguing, jealousy, anger, selfish fighting, evil talk, gossip, pride, and confusion.


Why? Because I want to touch their heart. I want to show them I love them, even though they left me for their filthy idols.’
