Herod \{accepted this praise and\} did not give the glory to God. So an angel of the Lord caused him to become sick. He was eaten by worms inside him, and he died.


My life is passing away like smoke.\par My life is like a fire slowly burning out.\par


They say,\par “He did something wrong.\par That is why he is sick.\par I hope he never gets well.”\par


My body is clothed with worms and dirt.\par My skin is broken\par and covered with running sores.\par


God grabbed the collar of my coat\par and twisted my clothes out of shape.\par


But even though I was afraid, I said to the king, “May the king live forever! I am sad because the city where my ancestors {\cf2\super [5]} are buried lies in ruins. And the gates of that city have been destroyed by fire.”
