4 The Lord will speak harshly to the sea,\par and it will become dry.\par He will make all the rivers become dry!\par The rich lands of Bashan and Carmel become dry and dead.\par The flowers in Lebanon fade away.\par

The land is sick and dying. Lebanon {\cf2\super [302]} is dying and Sharon Valley {\cf2\super [303]} is dry and empty. Bashan {\cf2\super [304]} and Carmel {\cf2\super [305]} once grew beautiful plants—but now those plants have stopped growing.


God gave the command,\par and the Red Sea became dry.\par God led our ancestors through the deep sea,\par on land as dry as the desert.\par


You caused the sea to become dry!\par You dried the waters of the great deep!\par You made the deepest parts of the sea\par into a road.\par Your people crossed over that road\par and were saved.\par


The Lord tells the deep waters,\par “Become dry!\par I will make your streams dry too!”\par


Red Sea, why did you run away?\par Jordan River, why did you turn and run away?\par


The Red Sea saw this and ran away.\par The Jordan River turned and ran.\par


But you gave the command,\par and the water rushed away.\par God, you shouted at the water,\par and the water rushed away.\par


You make the springs and rivers flow.\par And you make the rivers become dry.\par


Jesus answered, “Why are you afraid? You don’t have enough faith.” Then Jesus stood and gave a command to the wind and the waves. The wind stopped, and the lake became very calm.


Amos said:\par The Lord will shout like a lion in Zion. {\cf2\super [2]} \par His loud voice will roar from Jerusalem.\par And the green pastures of the shepherds will turn brown and die.\par Even Mount Carmel {\cf2\super [3]} will become dry.\par


I will make the Nile River become dry land.\par Then I will sell the dry land to evil people.\par I will use strangers to make that land empty.\par I, the Lord, have spoken!”\par


I said to the sea,\par ‘You can come this far, but no farther.\par This is where your proud waves\par will stop.’\par


But God did not forget about Noah. God remembered Noah and all the animals that were with him in the boat. God made a wind blow over the earth. And all the water began to disappear.


And immediately, the water stopped flowing. {The water filled behind that place like a dam.} The water piled high a long way up the river—all the way to Adam (a town near Zarethan). The people crossed the river near Jericho.


Lord, you spoke strongly, a powerful wind blew from your mouth [139] {and the water was pushed back}. We could see the bottom of the sea. We could see the earth’s foundations.


I will destroy the hills and mountains.\par I will dry up all the plants that grow there.\par I will change rivers to dry land.\par I will dry up pools of water.\par


At that time, all living things will quake (shake) with fear. The fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the wild animals in the fields, and all the little creatures crawling on the ground will shake with fear. The mountains will fall down and the cliffs will collapse. Every wall will fall to the ground!”


The Lord reached down from above\par and saved me.\par The Lord caught me and pulled me out of\par deep water (trouble).\par
