6 A person’s enemies will be\par the people in his own house.\par A son will not honor his father.\par A daughter will turn against her mother.\par A daughter-in-law will turn against\par her mother-in-law.\par
6 For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.
6 For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law–a man's enemies are the men (members) of his own house. [Matt. 10:21, 35, 36; Mark 13:12, 13.]
6 For the son dishonoreth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the men of his own house.
6 Son disrespects father; a daughter rises up against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; the enemies of a man are those of his own household.
6 For the son acts with contempt for the father, and the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man's enemies are those of his own household.
A father and son will be divided:\par The son will be against his father.\par The father will be against his son.\par A mother and her daughter will be divided:\par The daughter will be against her mother.\par The mother will be against her daughter.\par A mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law will be divided:\par The daughter-in-law will be against her mother-in-law.\par The mother-in-law will be against her daughter-in-law.”\par
“Brothers will turn against their own brothers and give them to be killed. Fathers will turn against their own children and give them to be killed. Children will fight against their own parents and will send their parents to be killed.
“I am not talking about all of you. I know the people I have chosen. But what the Scripture {\cf2\super [208]} said must happen: ‘The man that shared my food has turned against me.’ {\cf2\super [209]}
I hear people whispering against me.\par Everywhere, I hear things that scare me.\par Even my friends are saying things\par against me.\par People are just waiting for me\par to make some mistake.\par They are saying,\par “Let us lie and say he did some bad thing.\par Maybe we can trick Jeremiah.\par Then we will have him.\par We will finally be rid of him.\par Then we will grab him\par and take our revenge on him.”\par
These men are your own brothers.\par Members of your own family\par are making plans against you.\par People from your own family\par are yelling at you.\par Don’t trust them,\par even when they speak to you like friends.”\par
Any person who makes fun of his father or refuses to obey his mother will be punished. It will be as bad for him as if his eyes were eaten by vultures and wild birds.
David also said to Abishai and all his servants, “Look, my very own son (Absalom) is trying to kill me. This man (Shimei) from the family group of Benjamin has more right to kill me. Let him alone. Let him keep on saying bad things to me. The Lord told him to do this.
But your passion was like a flood
you couldn’t control.
So you will not remain
my most honored son.
You climbed into your father’s bed
{and slept with one of his wives}.
You brought shame to my bed,
to the bed you lay on.”
