The Son of Man {\cf2\super [142]} came eating \{like other people\} and drinking wine, and people say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine. He is a friend of tax collectors {\cf2\super [143]} and other bad people.’ But wisdom is shown to be right by the things it does.”


“The tax collector {\cf2\super [288]} stood alone too. But when he prayed, he would not even look up to heaven. The tax collector felt very humble before God. He said, ‘O God, have mercy on me. I am a sinner!’


Many tax collectors {\cf2\super [257]} and bad people came to listen to Jesus.


If that person refuses to listen to them, then tell the church (group of believers). If that person refuses to listen to the church, then treat him like he is a person that does not believe in God. Treat him like he is a tax collector. {\cf2\super [254]}


“Be careful! When you do good things, don’t do those things in front of people. Don’t do those things for people to see you. If you do that, then you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.


All the people saw this. They began to complain, “Look at the kind of man Jesus stays with. Zacchaeus is a sinner!”


In Jericho there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a wealthy, very important tax collector. {\cf2\super [297]}


And if you are nice only to your friends, then you are no better than other people. Even the people without God are nice to their friends.


Later that day, Jesus ate at Levi’s house. There were many tax collectors {\cf2\super [25]} and other bad people eating there with Jesus and his followers. There were many of these people that followed Jesus.


The teachers of the law (they were Pharisees {\cf2\super [26]})saw Jesus eating with these tax collectors and other bad people. They asked Jesus’ followers, “Why does he (Jesus) eat with tax collectors and sinners?”


Even the tax collectors {\cf2\super [51]} came to John. They wanted to be baptized. {\cf2\super [52]} They said to John, “Teacher, what should we do?”


Then Levi gave a big dinner for Jesus. The dinner was at Levi’s house. At the table there were many tax collectors {\cf2\super [98]} and some other people too.


But the Pharisees {\cf2\super [99]} and those men that taught the law for the Pharisees began to complain to the followers of Jesus, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and other bad people?”


(When the people heard this, they all agreed that God’s teaching was good. Even the tax collectors {\cf2\super [135]} agreed. These were the people that were baptized {\cf2\super [136]} by John.


The Son of Man {\cf2\super [139]} came eating \{like other people\} and drinking wine. And you say, ‘Look at him! He eats too much and drinks too much wine! He is a friend of the tax collectors {\cf2\super [140]} and other bad people!’
