All these Jews began shouting louder and louder. Some of the teachers of the law, who were Pharisees, stood up and argued, “We find nothing wrong with this man! Maybe an angel or a spirit really did speak to him!”


But the Pharisees {\cf2\super [99]} and those men that taught the law for the Pharisees began to complain to the followers of Jesus, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and other bad people?”


The Jewish teachers of the law and the Pharisees {\cf2\super [95]} thought to themselves, “Who is this man (Jesus)? He is saying things that are against God! Only God can forgive sins.”


One day Jesus was teaching the people. The Pharisees {\cf2\super [94]} and teachers of the law were sitting there too. They had come from every town in Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. The Lord (God) was giving Jesus the power to heal people.


And the teachers of the law from Jerusalem said, “Beelzebul (the devil) is living inside him (Jesus)! He uses power from the ruler of demons {\cf2\super [48]} to force demons out of people.”


“The teachers of the law and the Pharisees {\cf2\super [327]} have the authority (power) to tell you what the law of Moses says.


I tell you that you must do better than the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. {\cf2\super [62]} If you are not better people, then you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.


The Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent some priests and Levites {\cf2\super [8]} to John. {\cf2\super [9]} The Jews sent them to ask, “Who are you?”


Paul came into the room. The Jews who had come from Jerusalem stood around him. The Jews said that Paul had done many wrong things. But they could not prove any of these things.
