Mark 8:11 - Easy To Read Version

11 The Pharisees {\cf2\super [93]} came to Jesus and asked him questions. They wanted to test Jesus. So they asked Jesus to do a miracle {\cf2\super [94]} to show that he was from God.

We should not test the Lord like some of those people did. They were killed by snakes \{because they tested the Lord\}.


Then some of the Pharisees {\cf2\super [176]} and teachers of the law answered Jesus. They said, “Teacher, we want to see you do a miracle {\cf2\super [177]} as a sign (proof).”


We think proud people are happy. Evil people succeed. They do bad things to test God’s patience—and God does not punish them.”


“You must not test the Lord your God like you tested him at Massah.


Jesus said to him, “You people must see miracles {\cf2\super [71]} and wonderful works before you will believe in me.”


Other people wanted to test Jesus. They asked Jesus to show them a sign (proof) from heaven.


Moses named that place Meribah [116] and Massah, [117] because this was the place that the people of Israel turned against him and tested the Lord. The people wanted to know if the Lord was with them or not.


Peter said to her, “Why did you and your husband agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! Do you hear those footsteps? The men that buried your husband are at the door! They will carry you out in the same way.”


Have any of the leaders believed in Jesus? No! Have any of us Pharisees believed in him? No!


So the people asked, “What miracle {\cf2\super [88]} will you do to prove \{that you are the One God sent\}? If we can see you do a miracle, then we will believe you. What will you do?


Then a teacher of the law stood up. He was trying to test Jesus. He said, “Teacher, what must I do to get life forever?”


But Jesus knew that these men were really trying to trick him. Jesus said, “Why are you trying to catch me saying something wrong? Bring me a silver coin. Let me see it.”


The teachers of the law (they were Pharisees {\cf2\super [26]})saw Jesus eating with these tax collectors and other bad people. They asked Jesus’ followers, “Why does he (Jesus) eat with tax collectors and sinners?”


That same day some Sadducees {\cf2\super [311]} came to Jesus. (Sadducees believe that no person will rise from death.) The Sadducees asked Jesus a question.


But Jesus knew that these men were trying to trick him. So he said, “You hypocrites {\cf2\super [308]} ! Why are you trying to catch me saying something wrong?


Then the Pharisees {\cf2\super [305]} left the place where Jesus was teaching. They made plans to catch Jesus saying something wrong.


Jesus went into the temple {\cf2\super [294]} area. While Jesus was teaching there, the leading priests and the older leaders of the people came to Jesus. They said to Jesus, “Tell us! What authority (power) do you have to do these things? Who gave you this authority?”


Some Pharisees {\cf2\super [257]} came to Jesus. They tried to make Jesus say something wrong. They asked Jesus, “Is it right for a man to divorce his wife for any reason he chooses?”


So the people turned against Moses and started arguing with him. The people said, “Give us water to drink.”


The Jews were using this question to trick Jesus. They wanted to catch Jesus saying something wrong. Then they could have a charge against him. But Jesus kneeled down and started writing on the ground with his finger.


Jesus asked, “What are you arguing with the teachers of the law about?”
